Advent Parish Retreat

Come Follow Me_02eWe wish to thank all of you who attended our Parish Advent Retreat with FR. JIM NISBET this past Saturday, December 6, 2014. The day was a faith filled, educational experience. We especially want to thank Fr. Nisbet for his presence among us.

I especially want to thank Carolyn Harrington and her “Adult Faith Formation Team” for all the hard work they put into this successful parish retreat!

If you missed it, please read the background information on Fr. Nisbet and view a few videos that capture his knowledge of the Scriptures and humor.

Fr Jim Nisbet_01

Father Jim Nisbet, is a renowned scripture scholar and inspirational speaker.  He is a priest of the Diocese of Monterey, California, presently residing at Mission San Luis Obispo. Though retired from active parish ministry, Father Jim, nevertheless, is quite active in his priestly ministry – doing what he loves to do the most: teach Scripture.  He has done so both at home and abroad. Throughout his 40 years of parish ministry and now in his retirement, Fr. Jim continues to share his knowledge and insights with parishioners, prisoners, seminarians, and university students. Father is also a popular and much requested speaker, who has brought his Scriptural insights, factual information, and humor to retreats, workshops, seminars and conferences on four continents.

Many credit his popularity to the fact that he brings Bible texts to life, making places, customs, and historical events real and their significance modern. He presents the Bible as a book of visions, rather than a book of concepts, which opens a new understanding for all. By sharing his faith life, he helps others to grow in their own.

Father Jim’s formal education was at the Universities of San Diego; at St. Paul in Ottawa; and at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. However, in his teaching he also draws from his vast personal experience and travels, which include multiple trips to the Holy Land; a profound familiarity with the Middle East – its history and culture; and his many years of daily immersion in the Bible.
