Respect Life Committee/ Comité Respeto a la Vida

The St. Elizabeth Respect Life Committee is part of the Life Ministry in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which promotes the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception to natural death through programs advocating prayer, education, pastoral care and advocacy.

The office is part of the Office of Life, Justice and Peace. It assists the Archdiocesan Commission for Catholic Life Issues and works to implement its programs. The Office also acts in accordance with the Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities published by the Pro-Life Committee of the National Committee of Catholic Bishops in Washington DC.

It is the responsibility of the Life Ministry Office to foster the education of the laity and to encourage, promote and coordinate their activities regarding Life Issues.

As a lay ministry at St. Elizabeth, the Respect Life Committee seeks to foster a respect for life, from conception to natural death, through community awareness and programs within the parish, including the daily recitation of the Rosary for Life, the Baby Layette Project, and legislative letter-writing campaigns on life issues, especially euthanasia, abortion and capital punishment. Furthermore in honor of respect life month we take part in a campaign for human life called, 40 days for Life.

What Does Pro-Life Really Mean?

Pro-Life

“To live in a manner worthy of our human dignity, and to spend our final days on this earth in peace and comfort, surrounded by loved ones—that is the hope of each of us.

In particular, Christian hope sees these final days as a time to prepare for our eternal destiny.

Today, however, many people fear the dying process. They are afraid of being kept alive past life’s natural limits by burdensome medical technology. They fear experiencing intolerable pain and suffering, losing control over bodily functions, or lingering with severe dementia. They worry about being abandoned or becoming a burden on others.”
